Blackened Sky: The debut album from this Scottish power trio is a majestic statement of intent combining extreme aggression with achingly tender guitar pickings and passionately lovelorn lyricism.
The Vertigo Of Bliss: Biffy Clyro’s second album The Vertigo Of Bliss was recorded in one day and released in 2003. Ensconced in Great Linford Manor studio with Chris Sheldon they ripped through a set of fifteen songs and spent the rest of the week on Playstation. The result is a rich, diverse album of angular post-hardcore / alt-rock.
Infinity Land: ‘Infinity Land’ renders best what made Biffy Clyro so beloved. It’s strange, complicated, and in lots of ways terrifying - but also the point at which they hoisted up their game. The Infinity Land of the title is the setting for a twisted alt.rock fairytale, inhabited by a band refusing to be fenced in.
Biffy Clyro came together in a school in Kilmarnock, just outside of Glasgow, when childhood friends Simon Neil (vocals/guitar) and twins James (bass/vocals) and Ben Johnston (drums/vocals) started playing music together. United by a love of underground, experimental rock and post-hardcore bands such as Braid and Karate, along with the starrier likes of Guns N’Roses and Metallica, they quickly honed their own unique sound, a mind boggling mix of off-kilter tempos, itchy, unpredictable guitars, soulful choruses and feral screams, sewn together into a strange tapestry of sound that sat resolutely apart anything else being made at the time, both in spirit and geographically too. They have released nine studio albums and their first three were on Beggars Banquet.
The Beggars era set the foundation for Biffy Clyro to become one of the UK’s biggest and most acclaimed bands. 2009’s Mercury Prize nominated ‘Only Revolutions’ dramatically raised the bar for the trio, taking them into the upper reaches of the singles chart, before the double-album ‘Opposites’ became the first of three consecutive #1 records. Consistently broadening their ambitious & eclectic sound, Biffy Clyro have been heralded with multiple NME and Kerrang! Awards, and have been nominated three times for British Group at the BRIT Awards. They’re also a huge draw in the live arena, with unforgettable and multiple festival headline sets at Reading & Leeds, Download, TRNSMT and more. These forthcoming sold-out shows represent a rare opportunity to see the band explore their raucous musical beginnings in uniquely intimate settings.
